This is how your girlfriend wants you to dress
Words: India Gladstone
While yes, it’s important to dress in a way that you feel comfortable, it’s also essential that you listen to your girlfriend. Call me controlling, say that I should love my boyfriend no matter what he wears, but I can tell you one thing: I might love him a little bit less if he continues to wear a few items of clothing in particular. Superficial as that may sound, I’m the one who has to see him all the time and be seen with him, so as a girl who definitely has a fully-fledged interest in clothes, mark my words: listen to your girlfriend.
The signs that she wants you to up your style game should be fairly obvious, but are not limited to the following: ‘subtly’ eyeing up another guy in the same restaurant you’re sitting in and then commenting on his style; always pointing at something she’s seen on the Daily Mail website and talking about how good George Clooney looks when he wears his shirt like that/that type of shoe/that style of trouser; or making a ‘joke’ out of something you’re wearing in a ‘loveable way’.
Working for the type of company I do, and covering the type of subjects that I do, I get a lot of my girlfriends coming to me with this very conundrum, asking me if I can talk to their boyfriends because their tactics haven’t been working. And most of the time, it’s either their tactics aren’t that great, or their boyfriends just aren’t getting the hint. So, gentlemen, I’ll save you the misfortune of having someone think that you dress terribly – because this is how she really wants you to dress:
