Wine of The Week – Rhône

Wine of The Week – Rhône

Rhône is often over looked by many, in favour of the more fashionable wine regions. Its most notable wine is the famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape, which is from the southern sub-region.

The Rhône wine region is located in Southern France, in the Rhône river valley from which it takes its name. The region produces an array of wines under Appellation d’origine contrôlée (AOC) designations, the region’s most notable appellation being Côtes du Rhône AOC.

The region is divided in two sub-regions, similar to that of Bordeaux. These sub regions all have distinct vinicultural traditions. The northern region produces the likes of the Syrah graph, normally associated with red wines. The southern region on the other hand is more varied and produces red, white and rose wines, which are often produced using a mixture of grapes.
