In West Sussex, you’ll find the best of Britain. A unique luxury hotel, Amberley Castle can be found sitting pretty on the south side of the River Arun — set within a 900-year-old castle and enclosed by a 60-foot characterful curtain wall. Owned by the esteemed the Brownsword family, it has been turned into perhaps the most exclusive hotel in the South Downs by staying small, private and boutique. In fact, just 19 bedrooms make up the hotel, with cosy communal spaces including the incredible Queen’s Room restaurant and its barrel-vaulted 12th century ceiling.

Surrounding the castle, stunning gardens roll out across the county, with a wildflower meadow and tranquil corners playing host not only to guests — but also to two resident white peacocks.
