You will be familiar, even if you haven’t seen, the depressing social media posts that expose faux summer glamour, the genre known as “Instagram vs Reality”. Nowhere is the contrast between truth and fiction so stark as on Santorini, the whitewashed island in the Aegean beset by two million visitors every year, multiplying by a factor of 100 the tiny location population. Holiday snaps from this part of Greece might look serene, but in reality just outside the shot there are thousands of other sweaty tourists trying to take their own LMBL pics without half a dozen cruise foghorning ships in the background.
