What’s On – Beckham Buys Miami MLS Soccer Team
Words: Violet
It was announced yesterday that national footballing superstar (and all around cool guy), David Beckham, has exercised a contract clause and will purchase the rights to a new Miami football team for $25 million.
The MLS League, which stands as the 7th best football league in the world, has nineteen teams and an average crowd per match of 18,600. Because of this global status, David Beckham – who in the past has played for Manchester United, Real Madrid and LA Galaxy but has now retired from football – has already brought a lot of attention and revenue to US soccer and this latest move shows his dedication to the cause.
“I wanted to create a team that we could start from scratch,” explains Beckham. “I know this city is ready for football — soccer — this time around.”
