Boys Toys – The Spy Hawk

Boys Toys – The Spy Hawk

The spy hawk camera sounds like something that would be more appropriate for those who would like to stalk celebrities without their knowledge. Or for those men in the military who want to see how those SAM sites on top of various council houses are coming along (before it gets shot down). Actually, the military might want to pay a bit more attention to this little gadget as, value for money wise, it’s rather good fun.

At £245.95 it’s a lot cheaper than most surveillance equipment the MOD is allowed to use! Now I know that our army’s pocket money is about to be cut to around six pence and you could do worse than replacing those spy planes with the Spy Hawk RC. Seriously though; a five mega pixel camera that comes with HD video capabilities and the ability to feed live images down to a 3.5 inch high-resolution screen on the remote is no laughing matter. It’s rather cool if you think about it. With a range of 600 meters and the ability to record images onto a 4GB micro SD the specs are pretty good too.

Indeed, the wingspan of 84 cm combined with crash resistant foam makes this a compact flying camera for around the same price as a very good cannon. The cannon will have a lot more mega pixels but it sure as hell won’t be able to fly. Ah you say, what happens if I am not a geek and don’t spend my time flying model planes on account of the fact that I have a life – so how will I be able to fly this thing? Well the answer is simple, it comes with an auto assist mode for all you wanna-be fly boys. How effective this is, is yet to be seen as the Spy Hawk RC comes out in early August. My only criticism is that it could be regarded as a bit of a kid’s toy – but usually only by the people you will be irritating by flying too close to their heads. All in all it’s a great summer gadget and you will enjoy flying it into other people and have even more fun watching their faces as it hits them.
