We Like – Sloane’s Gin
Words: Gentleman's Journal
On tuesday night, Sloane’s Gin held a cocktail preview at the lavish St.James’s Hotel in Green Park, London. The Gin was awarded ‘World’s Best Gin’ at the World’s Spirits Competition in 2011, not bad for a brand founded that same year.
Four cocktails were being previewed in all, the first of which was the Sydenham & Sloane. Described as a refreshing combination of Sloane’s Gin, freshly squeezed lemon juice, sugar syrup, orange bitters and light tonic, it is dangerously easy to drink. The essence of lemon and orange really comes through and with the subtlest hints of gin, it balances perfectly with the blend. If there was ever a gin and tonic to get the young man started, this would be it.
Next comes the Cabinet of Curiosities – a sense awakening of Sloane’s Gin, blackberry puree and agave syrup, shaken and served over ice in a cold glass with a spray of Iris and Angelica root essence. Delicious in taste and pretty in appearance this one will be an instant hit with your Lady. The Gin is hardly noticeable and fits the bill to replace any other cocktail you might find on a menu this summer.
Thirdly, is the ‘£20,000’, aptly named for its martini style outcome, James Bond himself would be happy to give this a sip or two. Sloane’s Gin with Noilly Prat dry vermouth, Martini Rosso sweet vermouth with just a dash of Maraschino liqueur, stirred and served in a martini glass with a spray of orange, lemon and juniper essence. This is one for the less sensitive tastebuds, very strong but full of flavour, with all the ingredients coming together in a revitalising manner.
Lastly comes the Jamaica 800, a creamy combo of Crème de Cacoa Brown, milk and cream, shaken and served over ice with a spray of coriander and vanilla essence. Feminine in appearance but manly in punch, a splendid cocktail for both you and your Lady. All these cocktails become available to order in St.James’s Hotel and Club from August onwards.
Sloane’s Gin is available from Sainsbury’s for £22.99.
