Watchout: Rolex Deepsea Sea-Dweller D-Blue Dial

Watchout: Rolex Deepsea Sea-Dweller D-Blue Dial

Words: Charlie Thomas

Over the years, Rolex have, among other things, become famous for their diving watches and this is their latest; the Deepsea Sea-Dweller D-Blue Dial. Built to commemorate James Cameron’s successful solo dive to the deepest point on Earth, The Mariana Trench, this watch is a welcome addition to Rolex’s line-up, bringing with it a range of features unique to it.

Designed to be plunged to the dark depths of the ocean, the Deepsea D-Blue has been created to make timekeeping an absolute ease, whatever the conditions. As you might have guessed from the name, the dial glows a distinctive blue and thanks to its innovative Chromalight display, it lasts up to twice as long as many similar watches. Also, similar to other Rolex diving watches, it can easily withstand the enormous pressures of deep water exploration and of course, it features the brand’s signature helium escape valve, which protects the watch from the rapidly changing conditions on the ascent back to the surface.

The watch is able to resist the pressure created by water at up to an incredible 3,900 metres (12,800 feet), which is equivalent to roughly 3 tonnes of pressure. This is quite a feat but of course, being a Rolex it has to look the part too. Thankfully it does, and its two-tone gradient dial and piano black bezel creates a striking look that will work just as well under the cuff as it does under the sea.
