Longines have done a rather grand job of re-creating its classic pieces as of late. The brand’s Heritage family is shaping up to be a perfect collection of vintage-looking pilot watches, divers, and classic dress pieces. For Baselworld 2015 they improved it a step further, adding the Longines Heritage Diver 1967.
With an impressive diving heritage, many of Longines models date back to the ‘50s. This particular example draws inspiration from a piece they produced in, yep you guessed it, 1967. It’s perfectly executed and faithful to the original, with a bordeaux coloured bezel, outer tachymeter track and ‘panda’ chronograph dials.
The case measures in at 42mm and features modestly-sized pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock. The screw-down crown is slightly oversized and features bevelled detailing allowing for easier grip. Inside, the movement is automatic, and produced by ETA exclusively for Longines; it’s named the calibre L688.2 for the watch geeks out there.
The vintage detailing is impressive to say the least, and with its textured black dial and off-white sub dials, the combination is charming. The watch comes complete on a rubber diver’s strap or a metal bracelet, but we imagine it would look even better when swapped for a NATO or smarter leather one.
