Watchout: A. Lange & Sohne Richard Lange Tourbillon “Pour le Mérite”

A. Lange & Sohne have released a number of new editions lately, highlighted by the Langematik Perpetual in white gold. This latest piece perhaps tops them all though. The brand new Richard Lange Tourbillon ‘Pour le Merite’ is also finished in white gold, yet its uniquely intricate design and old-world charm really sets it apart.

As always, A. Lange & Sohne have made use of the finest materials known to man. The case is finished in highly-polished white gold, the dial in shimmering solid silver and the strap in black alligator leather. The blue-steeled hands notably stand out against the muted dial but the star of the show is the arrangement of the sub-dials themselves.

At first glance it may appear as though this watch is a standard regulator. Look a little closer though and you’ll notice that all is not what it seems. Where the two bottom dials cross over, a unique system has been implemented which allows a section of the right dial to tuck under itself, fully revealing the tourbillon on the left. This can be seen in the picture below.

This intricate section is only visible between 6 and 12 o’clock, and the rest of the time the tourbillon is on full display. Turn the watch over though and the full artistry reveals itself. All of a sudden the $212,900 price tag starts to make sense. The manufacture calibre L072.1 movement is manually wound and features a stop seconds mechanism for ultimate accuracy.
