Watchout: A. Lange & Sohne Lange 1 Tourbillon Handwerkskunst

Watchout: A. Lange & Sohne Lange 1 Tourbillon Handwerkskunst

Twenty years ago, legendary watch brand A. Lange & Sohne was reborn. The Lange 1 was the first watch they produced under their new ownership, and with its radical design and elegant functionality it was instantly unforgettable. It was only fitting that for the 20th anniversary of this timepiece, the Glashutte brand would update it. The Lange 1 Tourbillon Handwerkskunst is the result of their efforts, and it’s damn near perfect.

The 38.5mm case is finished in platinum, and with a black enamel dial and rhodiumed gold hands, this is a timepiece doused in the finest materials. The jewel in its crown is the tourbillon with stop seconds, which is visible through a window at 5 o’clock, yet unlike so many similar watches, this doesn’t completely dominate its design. Instead, this Lange 1’s beauty is found in all aspects, from its stark black dial to its fluted crown.

When you turn the watch over though, its true beauty reveals itself. Its boasts one of the finest looking movements of recent memory, with its opulent engravings and embellishments. The three-quarter plate is constructed of untreated German silver, and features numerous cutouts to reveal the wizardry going on beneath. The screws are made of gold and there are two diamond endstone bearings for the tourbillon, all of which demonstrates the true extent of which A. Lange & Sohne have gone to deliver such a masterful wristwatch, and one that is worthy of the 20th anniversary celebrations.
