Watches – What we think about Smart Watches

We’re all impressed that with one swipe of a finger across your iPhone you’ve managed to play four different types of music across your home, light the fire in the drawing room, let the dog outside and tuck the children into bed. Honestly it’s cool, but we don’t really care.

We all know one of those people, who goes to excruciating lengths to show off how they have linked all their household technology into their iPhone controls, but the time has come to draw the line. Smart Watches are the newest addition to the ‘tekkies’ wardrobe. Imagine not having to go to the trouble of reaching into your pocket to check your emails, when it’s right there on your wrist! It’s another big step for technology but unfortunately it’s a huge step back for mankind. Embracing smart watches first of all ruins the watch industry, and secondly, loses the very essence of watchmaking; precision, incredible skill and beauty.

So who will buy a smart watch? Kids, which is fine by us as they have only wasted their parents money, not their own! And the type of people who will justify their purchase with arguments such as having a stopwatch of digital precision, or maybe not being able to sleep without knowing what time it is in China. Unfortunately, none of these are good enough excuses for us. So the next time you find yourself drawn towards Apple or Samsung’s windows, take a step back, and remember that these are not the watches for you, and that mountain boots are not acceptable with jeans.

Alternatives can be found in the Tag Heuer Mikrotimer, a digital chronograph that will suit all your digital timekeeping desires, while carrying the stamp of a proper watch brand. Or the Breitling Airwolf Raven, a chunky, sporty, rubber strapped work of art that will satisfy your digital display urges, while at the same time fooling the outside world into thinking you have incredible style.
