2014 has been a tough year so far for much of the world’s search and rescue services, starting with the bizarre and unexplained disappearance of Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 in March, and more recently the abandoned search for the British crew lost off the American coast onboard the British yacht, the ‘Cheeki Rafiki’. So, we ask, has the time come for all adventurers to wear a Breitling Emergency?
In such an advanced world that we live in, disappearing aeroplanes and yachts should really no longer be a problem, and the tragedy lies in the fact that there are ways these catastrophes can be avoided.
The Breitling Emergency 2 is probably the most life changing watch for worldwide adventure, even for the adrenaline junkies who thrive on being completely cut off from civilisation. The Emergency 2 is fitted with a dual frequency distress beacon, which when initiated gives out a signal via satellite to emergency services, no matter if the signal comes from the air, land or sea. The fact is that if any passengers onboard flightMH370 or the Cheeki Rafiki had been wearing a Breitling Emergency and had the chance to operate the distress beacon, their chances of being found quickly would have increased dramatically.
The Emergency watch from Breitling truly is a piece of engineering brilliance, and if I was planning a trip to Mount Everest any time soon, it would be the first bit of kit on my list, however I would probably avoid pulling the distress beacon the next time you can’t find a taxi home, as you may receive slightly more back up than you desired!
