Enjoying lunch the other day, I glanced over my shoulder and spotted a few familiar men. James Blunt, Fernando Torres, Owen Wilson, Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Affleck all sitting around, looking handsome and what did they have in common? They were all wearing a Piaget Polo Fortyfive.
On reflection of this lunch, there is a small chance that Affleck may not have been present, and in my state of excitement I may have dreamt the rest as well. However, not letting the truth get in the way of a great story, who would have thought Piaget would have made a sports watch that is now being worn by some of the world’s most famous fashion icons?
Unarguably a very special company who has a reputation for rarely being seen on the wrist of rappers or Justin Bieber, Piaget’s target customer oozes elegance, subtlty, and affluence. However, what the Piaget Polo Fortyfive has done is smash that mould out of the park. Launched in the 1970’s, the original Polo from Piaget was the sport’s watch of it’s day, only rivalled by Audemars Piguet’s Royal oak and, relaunched in 2009, it would appear to have carried on it’s presence in the sport’s market.
The sporty watch is a first from Piaget; it’s titanium case, rubber strap and large 45mm dial makes it more perfect for a younger market. Combine this with it’s £11,700 price tag and it’s a bargain compared with Piaget’s other ranges. Special features of this watch are it’s 880P calibre mechanical and self winding movement which is noticeable by it’s flyback function which allows the chronograph to be reset without affecting the running of the watch. A nice touch. The heritage of the Piaget Polo and it’s redesign for the modern man make it a perfect choice for a young man’s sports watch.
