Vertu launch insane £14,500 Bentley phone
Whilst most mobile phones are designed to be used for one or two years before they are replaced with updated, more technologically advanced iterations, Vertu produce phones that are meant to last a lifetime. They shun cheap plastics for fine metals and leather, and stick to classic designs that won’t date. They also partner with exclusive brands such as Bentley, and, as part of their five-year deal with the British marque, they’ve unveiled a second phone in the partnership, the Vertu Signature for Bentley.
The Signature is Vertu’s trademark device. It was the first mobile they launched back in 2002 and it forms a significant part of the British brand’s sales. It seems only right then that they’ve partnered with Bentley, the esteemed British manufacturer who’ve been producing consistently opulent machines for decades.
The Vertu Signature takes things back to basics, in many ways. It shuns a large touchscreen in favour of a two-inch sapphire crystal display and, surprisingly for a modern smartphone, it features buttons you actually have to push. Unlike most phones on the market, only the finest materials are used in its construction, which itself is akin to the level of detail a watchmaker approaches his craft.
Each Signature phone is constructed in England by a single craftsman, a feat that is virtually unheard of in the world of technology. Directly inspired by the Bentley Mulsanne Speed, the Signature Bentley features many design traits found on the flagship automobile. The carbon fibre accents found on the phone features a similar weave pattern, and the stainless steel sides are made with a knurled finish, similar to what you’ll see in a Bentley interior.
As with every Signature purchase, owners will get complimentary access to Vertu Concierge for a year. This service assigns you a personal assistant that essentially answers to your beck and call, giving you access to a range of activities and events.
