Although having never rekindled the critical success of his first two films, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, Guy Ritchie has continued to make films throughout the last decade. The Man From U.N.C.L.E is his latest effort and it has spy-genre fans’s knickers in a twist.

Starring Henry Cavill (of Man of Steel fame), the film is a light-hearted take on the saturated spy genre, offering comedic elements as well as fast-paced action. It’s based on the eponymous television series from 1964, and is set in the Cold War of the same period.

Cavill stars as Napoleon Solo, a CIA agent who teams up with a KGB spy (Archie Hammer) to take down a criminal organisation bent on a wrecking havoc with nuclear weapons. Judging by the trailer, the film will be as stylish as it is intense, but the comedy element is what will set it apart. It’s due for an August cinema release date.
