Who should pick up from James May and Richard Hammond as the next generation of Top Gear co-hosts has been much debated since Chris Evans was named as Jeremy Clarkson’s replacement.
It had been long rumoured that German racing driver Sabine Schmitz and motoring journalist Chris Harris had been chosen to front the revamped show alongside Evans but that no longer appears to be the case. Former Friends star, Matt Le Blanc has today been named as one of the men who will be stepping into a May and Hammond shaped void on set.
Evans said:
“Matt’s a lifelong fellow petrolhead and I’m thrilled he’s joining Top Gear. Acting out our craziest car notions on screen is a dream job and I know we’ll both be debating some epic road trip ideas. We can’t wait to share what we’ve been up to on screen later this year,”
The actor is the fastest celebrity to-date around the Top Gear track in its reasonably priced car and will be the first non-British presenter of the show in its 39-year history. The BBC had also said that additional Top Gear cast members would be “confirmed shortly”.
Top Gear is due to return to BBC2 in May.
