Less than 2 months into a new year and already a classic car record has been scooped. The immaculate Ferrari 335 Scagaletti from the Pierre Bardon collection fetched a grand total of £24.7million, claiming the record as the most expensive racing car ever sold. But it wasn’t all about the headline-grabbing Ferrari. Other, less high-profile candidates, fetched handsome sums at the 2016 Retromobile sale…
1968 Ferrari 330 GTC
Sold for: £417,000

The Ferrari 330 GTC came about in 1966 when Ferrari and Pininfarina (the design house behind many of Ferrari’s cars) believed that there was a market for a more agile 2+2 tourer, but something more flexible and quieter than the 275 GTB. They weren’t wrong.
1960 Maserati 3500 GT Vignale Spyder ‘Long Bonnet’
Sold for: £426,000

1903 Moonbeam III ‘Moonbeam of Fife’
Sold for: £860,000

Okay, so this one isn’t a car but it’s a beautiful machine nonetheless. Moonbeam III was commissioned in 1903 – a time when sailing boats were only just evolving from workhorses to machines of passion and competition.
1986 Ferrari Testarossa Spider Valeo, ex-Gianni Agnelli

1957 Ferrari 335 Scagaletti from the Pierre Bardon collection
