At the 2025 Golden Globes, Timothée Chalamet got in tune with Bob Dylan
The A Complete Unknown actor is taking method dressing seriously

The 2025 Golden Globes saw a lot of cosplay. At one point host Nikki Glazer wore an outfit that nodded to both Wicked and Conclave (and did a number). Michelle Yeoh gave us Wicked villain in Balenciaga, while her co-star Jeff Goldblum rocked a sparkling Emerald City evoking jacket. Kylie Jenner supported Timothée Chalamet and channeled a Hugh Grant-supporting Liz Hurley at a 1990s era Golden Globes in the same vintage silver chainmail Atelier Versace dress from the Spring 1999 shows. And then there was Chalamet, who channelled his current muse Bob Dylan, and scooped the award for the best cosplay of the evening.
In case you've missed it, Chalamet took on the role of American singer-songwriter Dylan for James Mangold's A Complete Unknown, which traces the musician's arrival in New York as a teenager and his time on the Greenwich Village music scene. This brought Chalamet to the Globes in the first place - the film was pipped for three awards, but lost out on all.
But that didn't phase Chalamet, who was all smiles, as he got to be the first guy to wear Haider Ackermann's Tom Ford - no surprises seeing as the creative director and actor have had a long-running bromance. But it wasn't just any outfit. It had all the subtle nuances that nodded to Dylan's own wardrobe, and that you wouldn't need to be a superfan to pick up on. The black textured suit was slim in fit (slimmer, we add, than most we've seen at Tom Ford prior to Ackermann's tenure), while the spotty neck scarf Chalamet wore was clearly a neat nod to Bob Dylan's own outfit on his 1966 album cover for Blonde on Blonde.
It isn't the first time that Chalamet has been channelling Dylan on the press run for the movie, which came out on Christmas Day at the tail-end of 2024. When he stepped out for the New York City premiere of A Complete Unknown, Chalamet diutched his tousled hair and rocked a new blonde, straightened 'do, channeling his inner Dylan. He also recreated the outfit - beanie hat, plaid shirt and scarf - that the now 83-year-old wore at the 2003 Sundance Film Festival, for the premiere of the film Masked and Anonymous, in which he starred.
Method dressing, by which we mean an actor or musician dresses in alignment with the film or album they're promoting, has become a regular occurrence on the red carpet as of late. The Barbie press run in 2023 was full of it, with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling dressing as their sickly-sweet, pink and pretty on-screen counterparts IRL. Zendaya channelled futuristic (in vintage Thierry Mugler) for the Dune press tour, and more tennis-adjacent gear for the Challengers press run than you can shake a racket at.
With Chalamet's latest move, don't expect any less of it in 2025.
