Nestled in the stunning wilderness of Tasmania’s central highlands is a boutique lodge unlike any other. Located in a staggeringly beautiful World Heritage Area, Pumphouse Point is a historical site, gently restored to welcome guests to an area of true natural beauty.
Accessible by driving from Hobart, make the trek and you’ll be welcomed by a dramatic and isolated landscape. Not that isolated, however – as a piloted helicopter or chauffeured car can be arranged to take you right to your front door.
And what a front door it is. Not just a place to stay, but a place to experience, this is a site made up of three unique lodges; the Shorehouse, the Retreat and the Pumphouse.
Weathered and unchanged on the exterior, both the Shorehouse and the Pumphouse are great for someone looking for a place to escape civilisation. However, for the more refined gentleman, there is no better option than The Retreat.
While the industrial Pumphouse stands proudly as a reminder of days gone by, a marvel of modern architectural grace appears further along the shoreline. In contrast it appears not only from a different time, but from another world altogether.
Hidden on the edge of the lake surrounded by Tasmanian bush, the daring and striking property was created to showcase the natural beauty of the lake, but you’d be forgiven if you can’t take your eyes off of this stunning example of design.
Inside, you’ll find locally-crafted furniture, ceramics and bath products and no shortage of local produce, wines and Tasmanian craft beers, ciders and spirits, as well as a few surprises. An ideal place to experience true togetherness and oneness with your surroundings, you and your special someone can sit in the bath tub under the stars and watch the weather roll in over the lake. What could be better than that?
