If there’s one mightily infuriating thing about classic cars, it’s their practicality. Yes, they may look beautiful, and they may hark back to a purer era of motoring — but sometimes the lack of good suspension and power steering can drive you around the bend.
But, thanks to established restorers such as Carosserie Lecoq Paris, more and more classics are being reborn onto our roads. And this particular garage’s latest effort, a 1966 Ferrari 330 GTC, is perhaps the best yet…
Presented in the original colours of Grigio Argento & Pelle Nera Franzi, this fully-documented restoration was completed this year. And, as well as fixing the power steering problem, the French garage has also fitted the Italian racer with air conditioning — making vintage summer road trips pleasingly possible.
Originally introduced in 1966, the 330 GTC was seen as more refined than earlier Ferraris, and considerably easier to drive. A two-seater coupé with a Pininfarina-designed body, around 600 were made — and it was famously said to be “probably the first Ferrari in which you could actually enjoy a radio” due to the quieter drive.
And, if you were worried that all these mod-cons and modifications will sap the essence of what makes a Ferrari a Ferrari, then allow us to allay your concerns. This particular model has been certified by Ferrari Classiche, a department which offers Certificates of Authenticity for restored cars. So it’s true to its heritage, but with all the benefits of the cars of today — the best of both worlds.
