Think ahead: 3 summer hairstyle trends

Think ahead: 3 summer hairstyle trends

In the searing height of summer, style can occasionally take a bit of a backseat. Simply put, no one wants to be layered up come the high season; attire is often stripped back to the fullest to accommodate the rising mercury, making being well dressed in the heat that little bit tougher. The emphasis is shifted onto the smaller details, hair included, as us gents can no longer hide behind layers, suits and killer outerwear once the sun is out in full force.

As you’ll be shuffling around your wardrobe to accommodate the impending heatwaves, consider both the hairstyle to suit your face and how suited your hairstyle is to the change in clime also. Whether your long locks just won’t do during the season or you’re just looking for an excuse to change things around, these are the hair trends set to prove big this coming summer.

SLICKED BACK

A solid all year round style that works particularly well when the sun strikes. The dramatic style, particularly with a pomade induced wet look, will keep hair off your face and give a signature detail to your pared-back appearance.

A short back and sides with a noticeable fade will give a great contrast to work from; the hair on top may have to be thinned so you can slick back without too much resistance. Mr David Beckham provides an exemplary hair role-model on this one.

BUZZ CUT

Inherently masculine and ideal for the summer when it comes to practicality. The buzz cut is back in style and gaining momentum from its stint as a key spring trend in hair. The thuggish notions have been shrugged off for a more discerning take this time around, follow the lead of actor Matt Bomer and don’t show off too much scalp for a cleaner cut look.

Also, go shorter on the sides than you do on top and if you’re confident (and skilled enough) save on the haircuts and maintain it yourself with a good pair of clippers; always let your barber have first sheer though.

COIFFED FRINGE

The fringe may seem detrimental to summer, after all hair all over your forehead is hardly going to help keep the heat at bay is it? Thankfully, this coiffed style is much lighter than your most likely imagining. The key to pulling off this more fashion forward follicular approach is a thinned out, shortened front. Have your barber cut the weight out of the fringe so it’s not uncomfortable come the sun.

The men who walked the runway for James Long had it almost down to a tee, although a slightly shorter take would be more appropriate for summer. Style with a matte product and blow-dry for a slightly dishevelled look.
