Bentley’s lies in a beautiful Victorian building on the boarders of Soho and Mayfair. It has made a name for itself by sourcing all of its produce from the British Isles and also by producing some of the best food in London. This can only be expected when the man behind it is none other than the renowned and highly acclaimed Richard Corrigan.
I have been to Bentley’s before for lunch during the week once, which may I say was brilliant especially as the sun was shining and we were able to take advantage of the wonderful terrace. However nothing quite prepared me for their Sunday lunch, this really was culinary experience in every sense.
We gathered at 2pm for a tour of the kitchen where we saw the impressive rib of beef resting and inspected the skillfully shucked oysters. After we enjoyed a pre lunch Bellini and some Canapés and learnt how Chef Eoin Corcoran has ensured that the Bellini’s are unique by working out how to get best fruits of the season into a glass of bubbly, we had rhubarb which was both delicious and refreshing.
We then made our way through to the Grill restaurant where in-house baked bread is served with handmade seaweed butter. This was accompanied by a selection of hot and cold oysters, that include garlic baked, Vietnamese, Rockefeller and natural.
Next to come was the shellfish plate, which was a beautifully presented and dressed selection of crustacea. This paved the way for the main event, the magnificent Hereford beef accompanied by all the traditional trimmings. The beef was perfectly cooked, both juicy and succulent.
To finish we had the Retro but modern Tipsy trifle on a floating island before having the opportunity to speak with Chef Eoin as he roamed the room chatting away to guests.
Sunday lunch at Bentley’s is a real celebration of food, however they have realised that Sunday lunch is about the atmosphere also, they have made sure that it remains interactive and special. £45 per person bentleys.org
