Words: Gentleman's Journal
It’s that time of year again when a feel good comedy is released just in time for Christmas. This year it comes in the form of Gambit, a remake of the 1966 Michael Caine film and it teams an uptight art curator (Firth) and a Texas rodeo queen (Diaz) in a scam involving a London millionaire (Alan Rickman hamming things up nicely) and a fake Monet.
Private art curator Harry Deane (Colin Firth) devises a finely-crafted scheme to con England’s richest man and avid art collector, Lionel Shabandar (Alan Rickman), into purchasing a fake Monet painting.
It will offer none stop laughes from start to finish with highlights including Firth’s loss of trousers while clambering up The Savoy Hotel’s walls and Diaz lassoing a lion, but Stanley Tucci comes close to stealing the show as a rival art expert.
