The Smart Watch Aiming To Replace Your Phone
Words: Alex Woodhall
Smart watches are the latest trend in tech. The hype surrounding the Apple Watch (not the iWatch) is reaching fever pitch as rumours over a release date build. One company however that’s flying under the radar of the Apple monolith is Neptune.
Taking a rather different approach, the start up is developing a device to replace the smartphone, as opposed to accompany it. The Neptune Duo smart watch is full of features with a quad-core processor, 4g cellular, GPS, NFC, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, you’ll be able to make calls, social network and send messages, among other things all from your wrist. Their venture is a genuine smartphone substitute.
The watch doesn’t come alone however, hence the Duo name, accompanying the high-tech wristwear, also known as the Hub, is a screen called the Pocket. Dubbed the dumb screen, the name doesn’t really give the right impression. Whilst it may not stand up to the watch in terms of power, it’s far from simple.
A 5-inch screen with a 720 display that houses two cameras, it’s powered by Android, allowing access to all the larger scale apps. The Pocket can also charge the watch a few times during the day; so the Duo will last a number of days with normal usage, far better than a certain phone’s battery life we must say.
You can reserve the Duo for free, or pledge $199 to save $200 when it comes to buying it.
