Jaguar in the past has always been ahead of its time and has always had a reputation for delivering classy coupés that combine speed, agility and long-distant comfort. However this reputation for a while seemed to be diminishing, that was until the XKR arrived. The Jaguar XKR represented a new dawn in Jaguar’s history.
What Jaguar have done so well with the latest and revised XKR is been able to offer a great value price, whilst offering stunning looks and a muscular supercharged V8 engine. In regards to comfort the XK instantly feels more forgiving than rivals and even with the large 20-inch wheels and the fact it is a convertible the ride is still very good, and there is virtually no scuttle shake.
The Performance of the XKR is no different, and due to its relatively light weight of 1600kg, the supercharged 5.0 V8 is more than adequate with a 0-62 of 4.8.
Then you have the handling and although the XKR is slightly more comfort orientated than the Porsche 911, it still produces one exciting ride and dare we say one that easily rivals the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. It is both poised and comfortable and is equally at home on the track as it is doing the food shop.
Jaguar has continued to try hard with the XK and the quality has continued to improve with each model. It is now a car that sits equally next to its intended rivals, Porsche and Aston, However at a much better price. The XKR has demolished its previous reputation as a golf-course staple and now is a very very cool car. jaguar.com
