The only spring trends every gentleman needs to know about
Words: Holly Macnaghten
There were an abundance of trends from the SS15 runways that we shall politely be choosing to ignore, and we suggest, gentlemen, that you do the same. We’re looking at you, florals (yet again, groundbreaking), sport sandals and our least favourite trend of all, the return of ‘performance wear’. You have our full permission – no, make that persuasion – to bypass these trends with an ever widening birth. What you do need to know about are these though, the trends that any self respecting gentleman should be taking careful note of for the season ahead…
BLUE, BLUE & MORE BLUE

In the form of casual separates and business attire alike, blue will firmly replace grey and black as the colour of the season. Great news for all involved because of this colour’s miraculously slimming properties, fresh look and easy wearability.

THE SAFARI JACKET

In our opinion, it doesn’t get more gentlemanly than this. Play to your inner Peter Beard and team with neutral chinos and soft chambray shirts for the perfect spring take on this trend. Wild game optional.

STRIPES

Bretton, thick or coloured – it doesn’t matter how you wear stripes this spring as long as you’re wearing them. Think riviera chic with tailored white shorts, or throw on wool-blend jumpers in statement bold stripes for whiling away weekends on the great British coastline.

DENIM

Who knew that double-denim could look so gentlemanly? Whatever you do this spring, make sure you invest in a soft denim shirt in pale blue. Team yours with darker denim jeans for the perfect off-duty look, or wear under natural hued linen suits for a fresh take on tailoring this spring. Those feeling brave might also want to look into the denim jacket as your new fail-safe piece – look to Tom Ford for how to wear this with perfect panache.
