The London Marriott Hotel Park Lane: laced in luxury
Words: Gentleman's Journal
Park Lane: a street with such enormous prestige and stature that there’s undoubtedly a hint of expectation that goes with entering any of the institutions on it. When it comes to the London Marriott Hotel Park Lane, expectations are high and they do not dwindle. From the moment we entered the building to the moment we left, we were treated like royalty – and felt like it, too.

The newly-transformed London Marriott Hotel Park Lane is a mere 6 months old, having undergone an extensive renovation with its Grade II listed building. RPW Design, one of the most notable design agencies in the world, can be credited with the magnificent transformation, which extended to all 152 bedrooms, the introduction of 5 new suites and a redesign of the lobby, executive Lounge and meeting rooms.
Upon entering the grand doors of this wonderful hotel, I’m greeted by an incredibly helpful receptionist who is on hand to help us find our way around the wonderful building. Moments later, Tom from The Jaunty Flaneur arrives to take our leather shoesaway – only to return them later in the evening looking literally as good as new and shined to perfection.

The scale of the hotel is huge; being on one of the busiest streets in London, it can get somewhat lost amongst all of the people, buildings and shops. But with the Marriott, that’s no bad thing. In a way, you feel as if you’ve stumbled upon a secret that none of the other hundreds of people outside your window know about. The Junior Suite, where we stayed, is laced in luxury. With our very own sitting room, bedroom and marble bathroom, it’s akin to a small flat. The lavender tones, warm wood and huge bed are incredibly welcoming; after being out in cold, dark central London all night, this is exactly where I want to be.

Next on the menu is our dinner at Lanes of London, which has also undergone a refurbishment earlier this year. The food is exquisite; the perfect winter menu that does exactly what you need it to and provides you with delicious tasting, seasonal and fresh food all year round. For our starters, we share the marinated duck and the confit salmon, which certainly does not disappoint. Next comes venison and sea bass for our mains, which taste as fresh and inviting as they sound. Everything about Lanes of London is wonderful; from the staff to the decoration to the attention to detail on the plate.

After a restful night’s sleep in this glorious hotel, we’re sad to see the back of it. But one thing’s for sure, and that’s that we’ll be back here in a flash.
