The Edit – The Classic Slipper

The traditional velvet slipper is an essential in every gentleman’s wardrobe, however over the years they have become less popular, that is until now. We think they are going to be a key trend for A/W 2012 and they are now becoming a much more versatile shoe. Brands are coming up with new ways to reinvent the slipper, whilst keeping the important element of tradition.

The classic slipper is often referred to as the Albert, after Queen Victoria’s consort. Until recently they have been only considered as house shoes and were traditionally worn with dinner jackets at home, or at one’s club. The slipper is also responsible, and made way for the social acceptance of the loafer too.

The key thing to remember is everyone can dress well in public, but it takes the refinement and elegance of a gentleman to dress well behind doors.

STUBBS & WOOTTON – NEEDLEPOINT TAPESTRY SLIPPERS, Stubbs & Wootton were founded in Palm Beach Florida in 1993, specialising in luxurious slippers. They have given a modern twist on the usefully traditional footwear, including this tapestry pair above, and they even produce them in a camouflage pattern. They are handcrafted in Spain and can be worn from the day, into the night. We think they look best with a white shirt, navy blazer and a pair of slim fitting jeans. £350 mrporter.com
