No matter where you live in the world, chances are the grass is always greener. If you work in a large city, you’ll want peace and space. Work in a remote village and you’ll want the thriving opportunities of an urban metropolis. There are some constants though. We all want a good quality of life, and a satisfying balance between work and play. If you’re looking to spread your wings, or you just want to fantasise about what could be, here are 5 of the most amazing cities to work and live in the world.
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
It’s no secret that us Brits love Australia. We’ve been emigrating there for decades and seemingly can’t get enough of the stunning beaches and consistently warm weather. Sydney itself seems ideal; it’s the centre of business for Australia, meaning plenty of job opportunities, and it’s top-notch schooling system ensures that families need look no further.
ZURICH, SWITZERLAND
Zurich is noted for its quality of living, and thanks to its abundance of respected universities, it attracts a youthful yet well-informed crowd. It’s home to the world’s largest financial centres and has a relatively low population. That’s a great combination if we’ve ever seen one.
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN
Aside from being one of the coolest cities in Europe, Stockholm also has some incredible opportunities in business – 500+ technology companies are based there. In addition to this, the nightlife is highly regarded by locals and visitors.
FLORENCE, ITALY
Considering that it is one of the most beautiful cities on the planet, Florence is a place you will enjoy spending time in. Just imagine lunchtime breaks strolling along the Arno river, or eating gelato in one of the many cafés. The world-class galleries and outstanding restaurants offer plenty of part-time work too, if you’re on your travels or postponing a career.
SHANGHAI, CHINA
China is still the fastest growing economy in the world and Shanghai is at the centre of it all. It’s a popular location for expatriates, and those who fully embrace the culture are welcomed with open arms.
