Motor shows are usually a fait accompli affair. They are, more often than not, the public christening of cars that have been in the pipeline for years. That said, this year’s Geneva motor show contained enough shock announcements and surprise supercar unveilings to send the motoring media into a carbonfibre-induced coma. Here’s a neat little round up of the four best surprises from the Swiss show.
Aston Martin DBX Concept

Like receiving a Christmas present from the distant uncle you never hear from, Aston’s new head honcho and ex-Nissan boss Andy Palmer arguably stole the show when he unveiled the DBX – Aston’s sleek, all electric sports crossover concept. With four electric motors, four seats and two doors, the coupe-shaped concept hints at something exciting for the brand as it takes aim at the super-premium SUV market. Fingers crossed, gents.
Lamborghini Aventador SV

For the days when too much just isn’t enough, Lamborghini has stepped up the Aventador to make the stripped out and tuned up Aventador Super Veloce or SV for short. The SV is treated to fifty more horses to total 740bhp while carbonfibre additions bring the weight down by 50kg, meaning the Aventador SV will reach 62mph in just 2.8secs before topping out at 217mph.
Koenigsegg Regera

The Regera is Swedish supercar maker Koenigsegg’s first attempt at a hybrid, and what an attempt it appears to be. Rid your mind of any Prius preconceptions because this hybrid produces a monumental 1500bhp from its twin-turbo 5.0-litre V8 and three electric motors. But that’s not the only party piece. The hydraulicly powered doors, bonnet and engine cover can all be opened remotely from the keyfob or the owners smartphone. With plans to produce just 80 examples, the Regera will be a highly sort after machine for slightly unhinged eco-warriors.
Bentley EXP10 Speed 6 Concept

Bentley has been churning out burly British-made gentlemen movers for longer than any living soul can recall. It prides itself on an unparalleled level of craftsmanship and design, and the surprise EXP 10 Speed 6 concept appears to exemplify just that. The exquisitely put together concept hints at a smaller coupe to sit alongside the Continental GT, as Bentley’s CEO Wolfgang Durheimer made reference to at the unveiling, “[it] could be a future model line, alongside the GT” while also “influencing the expansion of the Bentley family.” With Bentley’s Bentayga SUV to be revealed later this year, the EXP 10 is a very exciting development to come from the Crewe-based motor manufacturer. Could the Brits be looking to give Porsche’s 911 a run for its money? Watch this space.
