Tech – ZAGG Profolio + Ipad keyboard
Words: Violet
It’s interesting how we want new things that look like the thing they replaced. This is applying a lot to the new demand for iPad cases with keyboards which make them look suspiciously like laptops. Ironically, this article was written on one one of these abominations and this makes the author feel a bit like a traitor. An iPad is essentially a screen with the attitude of a small terrier dog: small, happy, enthusiastic, a few brain cells short of usefulness and able to provide hours of entertainment with very little effort. Laptops, however, are police dogs: sensible, aggressive, clever, yes – but they are heavy, a pain to get past immigration and occasionally bite their owners for stupidity.
The screen of the iPad makes it useless for typing as you get fingerprints all over it. This will make you go to the bathroom to wash your hands every time you use it which will not only give you wrinkly fingers but OCD as well. Not only is it dangerous to your sanity, but it is also impossible to focus on writing for much the same reason you don’t get Cara Delevigne to type reports: you’ll just end up playing with it (if anyone says ‘that’s what she said’ please leave…NOW).
You shouldn’t be able to type serious stuff on the same screen you play angry birds on and yet with this you can. It beggars belief: somebody has given the terrier some heels and suddenly it’s an Alsatian. Yes, it may be a bit wobbly but it does the job and the typing somehow takes away a lot of the temptation to use the apps. What people love about iPads is that they are slim (like Miss Delevigne), good looking (ditto) and portable (if only). With a keyboard they become better than a laptop as the big advantage a laptop has been removed. If you get one of these you can genuinely use an iPad for work.
Personally we like the ZAGG Profolio + because it is sturdy, looks professional and the keyboard feels like a keyboard. Some cases use rubber buttons and this is just wrong! If you are bored of lugging a laptop everywhere then this is one for you. All you need to do is wonder what you will put in the free space in your bag.
