TECH – Will These Be The Coolest Google Glasses So Far?
Words: Holly Macnaghten

Let’s be honest, Google Glass is pretty old news these days. Having been just over a year since the tech powerhouse announced the revolutionary new gadget, there doesn’t seem to be much more to get excited about…until now. Previously, no matter how many pouting models they put the google glasses on (we’re looking at you Diane Von Furstenburg) we were pretty convinced that they would still never be cool, or sexy for that matter. But slowly, as with all technology, the cool-kids on the design block are getting in on the act and joining forces with Google to start developing more ‘wearable’ and stylish versions of the glass. So wave goodbye to the cyber-style and welcome in the coolest Google Glasses…so far.
At present, beyond the original design, you can now choose from four feather-light titanium frames that fit with your prescription (or no prescription at all) and whilst they’re not the most stylish frames we’ve ever seen, they’re certainly a welcome change to the futurist pairs that we were used to seeing. The prescription frames cost $225 each and the shades are $150, but remember that’s in addition to the $1,500 entry fee to the Explorer program!
For several months it was rumoured that uber-cool glasses brand, Warby Parker, would be joining in on the action, but more recent claims have suggested this was just a rumour – but do not despair just yet, since the latest announcement is even better than we first expected. As of a few days ago, Google announced their partnership with Luxottica (the company behind Ray Ban, Oakley and Persol). Whilst no designs have been released, or even hinted yet, we’re pretty sure these really will be the coolest Google Glasses to date. Luxottica is already perfectly placed to help Google Glass reach the mainstream, and with their reputable expertise in manufacturing and design, the partnership will certainly mean an extended range of Glass options for potential buyers. So sit tight, gentlemen, as we await the next release.
