TECH – The Worlds First Real Hoverboard
Words: Holly
It seems Back to the Future hit the nail on the head – the American company Aerofex has announced it’s invention, the Aero-X, a modern take on Marty’s Hover Skateboard.
Forget cars, bikes, and buses; the mode of transport you should be taking is the hoverboard. Able to seat two people, or the equivalent of 140 kilograms, the Aero-X can hover up to 10 feet above the ground. Romantic hover for two, anyone?
The Aero-X is designed to respond to your movements in the same way that a motorcycle would, meaning you can learn to manoeuvre it within a matter of days – it’s as simple as lean to turn, apparently. The idea was to combine an off-road vehicle with an off-ground vehicle, and thus Aero-X hoverboard was born.
Surprisingly, the Aero-X can travel up to 45mph, and runs on the easily accessible automotive gasoline. Essentially, the way that it works is the board itself is powered by an engine made up of three cylinders, and has fans that propel it. We’re talking layman’s terms, no doubt.
At just under 15 feet long, 7 feet wide and 4 feet high, the Aero-X is compact and easily stored. So if you’ve ever dreamed of low altitude flight at speeds in excess of suburban limits, the Aero-X is right up your street. Maintenance is kept simple as it is made of very few moving parts, meaning you don’t have to understand quantum physics to qualify to own one (an added bonus).
The Aero-X is set to be released in 2017, but you can place your order now and put down a deposit to make sure you secure your model. The final cost comes to a steep $85,000, but as the company pegs it, that’s peanuts in comparison to a helicopter. Although we’re not sure you could fly it over the Grand Canyon…
Either way, 2017 is looking to be an exciting and buoyant year.
