TECH – The Jambox Mini

TECH – The Jambox Mini

Words: Violet

Jambox is a name that conjures up images of certain people. An almost religious group who live in faraway places, smoking wacky baccy, wearing ridiculous clothes and strange hats, having odd hairstyles, talking in funny accents, believing in outlandish things, criticising the rest of society for being too corporate and saying ‘jah’ a lot. Yes, hipsters are rapidly taking over the Rasta identity. Now, the word ‘Jam’ and ‘jamming’ has not quite been defiled by those skinny jean wearing, alternative, condescending idiots who live in their own little smug storm, BUT it is only a matter of time. We here at TGJ are deeply concerned by the plight of the common Rastafarian and would like to start a movement to protect this peaceful and hilarious group: to show your support all you need do is play reggae music very loudly at any group of hipsters who have the temerity to show up, uninvited (why would you ever do such a thing?), into your personal vicinity. (Preferably, play something like ‘I shot the Sherriff’ by the late, great Bob Marley).

However, to do this you need a speaker. And not just any speaker, oh no! It needs to be a statement and we can recommend no better statement then a speaker with the word ‘jam’ in it. It would be better if you good people worked in packs so as to coordinate said statement making and this would mean getting the JAMBOX mini.

Now, hipster hunting aside there are several reasons why we would recommend this speaker to you; the first is how it looks. It is, to our mind, a very good looking machine and it comes in many different colours. It has a very effective simplistic design that fits in to almost any surrounding. With 10 hours of battery life it will stay in said surroundings for a long time. The controls are easy to use a ‘+’ for more volume an ‘-’ for less, and a play/pause button for playing and pausing.

Through Bluetooth this can now be activated by SIRI or Google Play. This makes it a really multi-surrounding device and it can stream from iTunes. Unfortunately the app only works with the little Jambox so if you have a big one you’ll have to wait for an update. However, as with the big one the sound is perfect and with a length of about half a 30 cm ruler (no jokes!) and weighs about 250 grams it is genuinely portable in a bag. The aluminium case will also keep it safe from any knock and scrapes. So Comrades! Fight back against the hipsters! Save the Rasta! But do it in style with a Jambox mini!
