iPhone 5S TGJ.02

There are some things which have become traditional. They happen every year, without fail, and people get very excited about them. They include such events as Simon Cowell’s annual karaoke competition (not once but TWICE!), Made in Chelsea’s new batch of ‘talent’ (and yet they STILL can’t get rid of Spencer), One Direction fans’s mass death threat to whichever person insulted the bunch of quasi-homosexuals this week, and Lindsey Lohan’s stint in rehab.

However, there is another event that is becoming bigger than all of them put together. It involves queues around many a corner, it involves a big glass brick of a store, it involves men and women with deep blue shirts calling themselves ‘Geniuses’ and no-one questioning why. Yes, the competition to be the first to get Apple’s latest offering is now a traditional event.

There has been much doom-mongering about Apple since the sad passing of Steve Jobs. Questions have been asked by analysts with suits, ties AND clipboards about whether Apple is still competitive. However, the new iPhone looks like it’s going to be a very strong rebuttal. First things first: the new fingerprint scanner is a cool innovation where you can do internet banking and iTunes purchases via your digits – making things much more secure and easy to use. (N.B. it will also make you much more responsible for any embarrassing purchases) Hysterically, those of a Daily Mail persuasion have now convinced themselves that thieves will now walk around with a pair of scissors cutting off unsuspecting fingers.

The processor is twice as powerful as the iPhone 5 which will go beautifully with the new IOS 7 system. Now we here at TGJ really like IOS 7. It seems odd to get excited about software but when Sir Jony Ive designs something the track record speaks for itself. iPod, iPhone iPad, MacBook pro and air may have been sold by a Steve but all were designed by a Jony.

The size of the iPhone 5S is the same as the iPhone 5 but to be honest that’s a. not a bad thing and b. the inside is what will make this device. Apple seems to have upped its game significantly with this but the competition has shifted gears as well. Ultimately the success won’t be revealed until after 20th September. However, early signs are pretty damn good and Apple looks like it’s back on top.
