TECH – Bang & Olufsen Announce 3 new BeoLab wireless speakers

Words: Violet

Now, for those who have not heard of them before there are a few things that need to be appreciated about Bang & Olufsen. The first is that they were actually founded by a man who was genuinely called Mr Bang – which clearly deserves a medal of some kind. The second, is that these Danish people can be extremely crafty: an example that comes to mind is the Beolab twelve which was basically a cube and a remote. Apple does this for £99: B&O decided that their plastic box should cost you £800. This leads into our third point; B&O have clearly not heard of the phrase ‘market price’. The idea that you can leave their store for less than £1000 is more mythical than the Loch Ness monster.

People who study Bigfoot for a living, Ladies and Gentlemen, openly scoff at the idea of getting at bargain at B&O. TGJ will allow that to sink in for a moment. Now Bang & Olufsen have released three new products in time for the run up to Christmas; we looked at the pricing and it is roughly £12,000 for all of them. B&O have also got around the problem of people trying to buy them one at a time buy making them fit seamlessly together. Yup, clearly the recession did not hit Denmark in anyway shape or form.

However, the unfortunate thing for tight (or simply normal) purse strings, is that these speakers are in fact the best on the market. If sugar could sing then these speakers would make it sound even sweeter. Even the Beolab 19, which looks like a funky disco light, turns the base on Squirrel-ex into real music. The tag line for these three speakers is ‘immaculate wireless sound’ and they have got it spot on. Beolab 17 has 40 times the processing power over normal speakers because it has a digital sound engine attached to dual 160-watt amplifiers. This on its own will allow you to kill all bats in a 3km radius. This then slots in perfectly with the Beolab 18 and its other 160-watt amplifier and custom made mid-range woofers. This is then further enhanced by the Beolab 19 which uses its shape (an unpronounceable kind of polygon) to really make the base boom without any static on the edge of sound.

Having heard what this does to sound, volume and music; TGJ would love to recommend it to you but only if you have a spare £10,000. This is most certainly top of the line and really is the very best, time to turn up the volume Gentlemen.
