Tech – Apple Mac pro RED edition
Words: Violet

Some things are better in red; Arsenal are better than Tottenham, the lions are better than Australia, Virgin is better than BA etc. Red seems to be the colour that works. However, there is more to life than backing ‘the red one’ at the races and this is why this column is more about the charity than the machine. This is also because Sotheby’s (New York) have been mildly silly and not put out precisely what this machine can do. All we know is that it’s been ‘customized by Jony Ive’. Please Mr Sotheby don’t go into too much detail! We might not get to the bottom of the description with that technical and wordy sentence.
But to give you an idea of what the new Mac Pro will do (for all who do not have them which is most people): where most Desktops have four processors Mac Pro’s will have twelve. It has the latest graphics cards which will make a PlayStation four feel suicidal, it has 64GB of RAM which is roughly four times the highest levels on the Dell XPS series. The cooling system is basically a Dyson hoover (silent too) and it comes with six USB 3 ports and four thunderbolt ones, a HDMI and a very powerful internet port. It can do up to 40GB/s Bandwidth which is currently unavailable because no one on the planet can provide that kind of service yet. It is designed like a red R2D2 from Star Wars and looks very sleek and elegant. With a decent screen this is an experience to behold. So why aren’t more people excited about this: well it is difficult to get excited about a one-off product which cost £35,000 when the only description is ‘customised by Jony Ive’. As much as we love the Ive, TGJ would need a lot more before bidding on it. But if you are feeling very generous this Christmas then by all means go ahead as it has been guaranteed that all of the £35,000 will go to charity and you do get a truly one-off device.
Bidding for the Mac Pro RED edition stops on November 23.
