Tag Heuer take over 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed

Tag Heuer take over 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed

Tag Heuer and motorsport go hand-in-hand. The brand’s most famous watches include the Monaco and the Carrera (named after the prestigious Carrera Panamericana road race), hinting at the brand’s automotive DNA, and their partnership with McLaren has now entered its 30th year; quite an achievement in an industry not known for hanging around. Tag have further solidified their pole position on the grid though with the announcement of five all-new timepieces, set to be unveiled at the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The Festival of Speed is one of our favourite events on the calendar. Its unique charm attracts the finest marques and most respected collectors to showcase their prized machines year in, year out, with most of them taking their turns up the famed hill climb. The world’s best racing drivers also regularly descend upon the West Sussex estate, including none other than Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton, Sir Stirling Moss and Sir Jackie Stewart.

For five years now Tag Heuer has been a big part of the four-day affair in their role as Official Timing Partner. For 2015 though, their presence is set to be bigger than ever.

As well as their Driving Club, which is an impressive regular fixture of the event, Tag Heuer are putting on an exhibition in celebration of their motorsport heritage. Some truly iconic cars will be on display, including the most successful Formula One car ever, Ayrton Senna’s McLaren MP4/4 of 1988, which won 8 out of 16 races during that very season, taking him all the way to the Driver’s Championship. Elsewhere, Jenson Button’s McLaren MP4-26 will be on show alongside the Nissan GT-R LM Nismo and a unique helicopter gas turbine engined motorcycle, nicknamed the ‘MadMax’ bike. Best of all though, Tag will be showcasing all five of their latest creations. We take a closer look at some of them below.

TAG HEUER FORMULA 1 MCLAREN 30TH ANNIVERSARY LIMITED EDITION

This is the watch created to celebrate the 30-year partnership between Tag and McLaren. A classic Formula 1 model, it’s differentiated by its ‘Rocket Red’ accents – a colour used by McLaren when they win – found on the bezel, the number ’30’ on the minute track, as well as the stripe on the canvas NATO strap. Elsewhere, the case back features an intricate engraving of the McLaren MP4 from 1985 – a great touch.

Ayrton Senna is arguably the greatest Formula One driver of all time. He crashed fatally in 1994, but Tag have helped to keep his legend alive over the years, unveiling a number of limited edition pieces inspired by him. These are the latest and come complete with the instantly familiar Senna ’S’ on the dial as well as Senna font around the bezel.

Measuring in at 43mm, this quartz chronograph features similar branding to the piece above, including a lacquered Senna ’S’ on the dial and bezel as well as a striking combination of red and anthracite or yellow and green – a reference to Ayrton’s helmet and his nation Brazil’s colours.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed is the perfect place for Tag to unveil these new creations. There’s plenty to celebrate over the weekend, including the Swiss brand’s 5th year anniversary as official timekeeper, but also, of course, the priceless machines making their way up the hill. If you have a spare minute or two though, we recommend making your way over to the Tag Heuer stand where you can peruse their wares and even place a pre-order, should you wish.
