‘Monogram Saint Laurent’ is an institutional line of luggage and accessories belonging to the permanent collection of the House of Yves Saint Laurent. With this in mind, we turn our attention to the Monogram collection from Saint Laurent, which is the perfect combination of effortless style and practical functionality. The ‘Monogram Saint Laurent’ line is based on ‘function’ and utility, its usage linked to travel, and the objects and necessities of everyday life. The unisex collection was designed last year by Hedi Slimane, based on a link from the Art deco ‘Babylone’ chain bracelet, as well as the repetition of the historic logo designed by the artist Cassandre for Yves Saint Laurent in 1961, the ‘Monogram Saint Laurent’ pattern toile places itself within the heritage approach of the Couture House.
The ‘Monogram Saint Laurent’ toile is made from a natural coated cotton weft canvas. The print comes in classic, muted shades of brown and black and the coating reinforces the resistance needed for everyday use and travel, allowing the canvas to maintain its authentic appearance and lustre. For its initial launch, the institutional ‘Monogram Saint Laurent’ collection comprises around thirty pieces including traditional luggage, leather goods for men and women, small leather goods and travel and toiletry essentials.
