Ever since Tata Motors acquired the British brand in 2008, Jaguar has been on an absolute role, producing some of the best looking, most desirable luxury cars on the market. Their current line-up is the strongest it’s ever been and the introduction of the F-Type last year solidified their place as arguably the most diverse British car brand. Gone are the days of old-fashioned, overweight atrocities, namely the S-Type. Now, the Jaguar name is synonymous with style, performance and forward-thinking design, but best of all is how they manage to stay true to their image by harking back to their lustrous heritage.
Looking to continue their immensely impressive run is their latest future release, the Jaguar XE. Slotting in behind the XF as the smallest car in the range, the XE is set to challenge BMW, Mercedes and Audi in the highly competitive saloon car market when it launches in 2015. Although the XE’s spiritual predecessor in the X-Type, the new car really is worlds apart in terms of design, specification, performance and pretty much anything else you can think of. Falling perfectly in line with Jaguar’s design ethos, the XE is purposeful and sexy, borrowing elements from the F-Type and XF, whilst blending in design cues all of its own.
It won’t just be a pretty face though, as the XE is the first car to utilise Jaguar’s state-of-the-art all-aluminium chassis, meaning that it will be lightweight and agile, just like its animal namesake. Engine wise, you can expect everything from a super-efficient 2.0 litre diesel to a range-topping 542bhp V8. The characterful 3.0 litre supercharged V6 from the F-Type will also be used, so you can expect the same incredible sound that has become a signature of the low-slung sports car.
The XE is yet another huge step forward for Jaguar. Whilst the Germans of BMW, Mercedes and Audi have become synonymous with quality engineering and reliability, they can often lack that all-important excitement factor. This is where Jaguar comes in, and with its combination of stunning looks, enticing performance and elegant luxury, the XE will be a real head turner when it finally pounces on the road in 2015.
