GUNS – A BICENTENARY TRIO FROM PURDEY

GUNS – A BICENTENARY TRIO FROM PURDEY

Words: Patrick

When it comes to making a Best shotgun, there are a handful of London gunmakers who stand head and shoulders above the crowd. This is simple fact. The marriage forged between consummate elegance and flawless mechanical function is a true art – something that James Purdey & Sons, one of these esteemed household names, knows all too well. From stock walnut selection to the last engraving etches, time and skill are employed unsparingly. You don’t have to be a game Shot to appreciate the beauty in each and every one of their finished pieces.

The company, based in Audley House, Mayfair, is currently sat on a milestone, this year celebrating 200 years of sporting excellence. To mark its bicentenary, Purdey has produced a stunning commemorative trio of guns, made up of a 12 bore side-by-side, 20 bore Damascus over-under and a .470 Nitro Express double rifle. The trio is also accompanied by an oak and leather travel case, and a custom-built glass case, for security and display.

Each model, crafted over a period of two years, has been carefully chosen to represent key design, innovation and craftsmanship landmarks in the company’s history. And each features engraving representative of the era it was made.

Their aesthetics are breathtaking, and reflect how the designs from the past still carry a huge amount of influence in the present and future. Long may it continue!
