The watch world is a heavily gilded place, replete with fine diamonds, gleaming statement rocks and lavish straps by the boutiqueload. Yet, with Senturion’s SW-C3, a hyper-futuristic timepiece, the audacity levels are thrust even higher, as it not only slaps a piece of black carbon-fibre onto your wrist, but, just like with previous models in the super-luxury brand’s lineup, it also has automobile functionality, due its to ability to start the wearer’s supercar.
Because of this singular feature that allows synchronisation with high-performance wheels, such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Porsche and Ferrari – a feat that is made possible by a push of the signature red button built into the strap – the British venture, which launched in 2013, has fast become known for its capacity to blend the craft of jewellery with engineering and technological prowess, and, in the process, has assembled a high clientele that includes the likes of Usain Bolt; Albert II, Prince of Monaco; and the Sultan of Brunei.
The marquee pieces in Senturion’s first series of wristwatches were the SW-M1 and SW-M2, both of which had just a run of 10 pieces and were defined by their use of Gibeon, a meteorite that is believed to be around 4.9 billion years old.
As part of a suite of recent releases, the SW-C3, which we’re particularly drawn to, is a sleek piece, with a hit of understated finesse that comes courtesy of a thin black carbon-fibre case with an iridescent grain texture, and a black sunbrush dial. Lettering is highly polished, there’s a machine-printed and hand-finished chapter ring, and, on the titanium caseback, you’ll find the label’s ‘S’ logo, as well as a radial-brush finish.
Within the structure, there is a 42-hour power reserve, precise automatic Swiss movement and a water-resistance to five bars. And, bringing together this ambitious wearable, which is the result of 280 hours of craftsmanship, is a strap with single-click release and a PVD titanium buckle – a much-needed feature for any high-octane ride.
