Words: Gentleman's Journal
Achy, cranky and tired from a week confined to the office is certainly not the way gentlemen should begin their weekend. Thankfully the iconic Rosewood London has the ultimate cure: the stunning Sense Spa.
Although only a short stride from High Holborn, the sprawling courtyard of the Rosewood London draws you into an oasis of calm before you even walk through the front door. The Sense Spa is discreetly sunk into the basement of the hotel, located at the end of a Tony Chi designed corridor. Just so you know gents, Chi creates the ultimate in masculine interiors if this is a name new to your ears!
Having only been to a handful of spas – hence my achy back and weary gait – I’ve always been slightly concerned that I may look like that guy. You know the one, just a little too groomed, a little too self-assured and slightly off-putting to the opposite sex. However, upon arrival I was quick to learn that I was certainly not that guy – no excuses are needed for taking some luxury lackadaisical time out.
The spa itself is what you’d expect of a luxury hotel, and more. The zen theme continued throughout with floor-to-ceiling slate walls, dimly yet refreshingly light, and wafts of delicious scents. Treatment rooms are evenly spaced around the centre of the spa, where the relaxation room lies. A tranquil gold-leafed circular space, the relaxation room is a haven with endless green tea where you can relax, sleep, read and refuse your mind from slipping back into nightmares of the FTSE100.
The Gentleman’s Journal treatment of choice was a Mankind facial. Designed for today’s modern man, it is a combination of a Himalayan salt back massage and a deeply exfoliating facial to de-stress, soothe and boost one’s overall confidence… well, certainly mine anyway. My treatment was most certainly relaxing and, as the Mrs later mentioned, worked wonders on my tired skin. From the massage to the natural oils, I left utterly refreshed, feeling like a more complete man.
