The best rosé under £30 to drink right now

The clocks have gone back and the sun is starting to show her beautiful face, which in turn puts a wide smile on all of our faces. Longer evenings, warm weekends, beer gardens, picnics, BBQs and, of course, rosé – a drink which epitomises the start of spring and general high spirits.

2014 DOMAINE D’ANTUGNAC, ROSÉ, TURITELLES, VIN DE PAYS, FRANCE, £7.95

This alluringly pale pink wine is fresh and crisp, yet rounder and more aromatic than one might expect with a nose of peach, strawberries and blossom. Delightful!

2014 CHÂTEAU FONTARÈCHE ROSÉ, TRADITION, CORBIÈRES, LANGUEDOC-ROUSSILLON, FRANCE, £9.25

This pretty, bone dry rosé from Château Fontarèche is from the commune of Canet d’Aude, northwest of Narbonne. It is made from a blend of Grenache, Syrah and the rather more obscure Picpoul Noir, a variety whose thin skin makes it ideal for rosé production and which, in this instance, accentuates a delightful nose of ripe red fruit.

2014 OLD PLAINS LONGHOP ROSÉ, MOUNT LOFTY RANGES, SOUTH AUSTRALIA, £14.95

Pale salmon pink in hue, this is a really attractive colour for a rosé. Made from old vine Grenache, the nose is fresh and full of strawberries but with a herbal note. It is dry and quite restrained on the palate with more ripe, crunchy strawberry fruit balanced by appealing freshness, making you want to take another sip.

COATES & SEELY, ROSÉ, SPARKLING, HAMPSHIRE, ENGLAND, £29.95

This sumptuous and elegant rosé is from Coates and Seeley. On the nose, an inviting medley of strawberries, raspberries and more than a hint of brioche. There is a lingering hint of strawberries on the finish.

And for the special occasion… CHAMPAGNE DEUTZ, ROSÉ, BRUT, CHAMPAGNE, FRANCE, £46.00

The colour is deep and beguiling, with the nose equally impressive, its fruit character dominated by cherry, blackberry and the forest-floor. The palate is amazingly poised and elegant, all of its latent red fruit personality perfectly balanced by a lively and refreshing fizz, which is completely seductive and therefore, self-evidently, impossible to resist.
