Richard James – Prince of Wales Check Wool Suit

For those of you unaware of Richard James, he was the revolutionary tailor who put some colour and contemporary style into Savile Row, back some 21 years ago when he opened his store on the iconic street. Back then he was called many things by the other more established tailors, including ‘a parasite’, as they claimed he was trying to use the reputation of Savile Row to sell his clothing. Today he is well and truly considered part of the tailoring establishment. He is known for taking traditional tailoring and combining it with a contemporary spin, and at the same time adding splashes of colour.

In June the first London Collections: Men took place and Richard James kindly invited The Gentleman’s Journal backstage for a preview of the SS13 collection. One item we were particularly impressed with was this Prince of Wales Check wool three piece suit. In our view this piece perfectly sums up Richard James, a modern cut with a subtle dash of colour, in a pattern that has serious heritage. £1,175 mrporter.com
