Richard Caring to open The Ivy Chelsea Garden
Words: Charlie Thomas
Having enjoyed decades as one of London’s most iconic, critically acclaimed restaurants, The Ivy is going West. Richard Caring is set to open The Ivy Chelsea Garden in March 2015 on the prime location of the King’s Road.
First opened in 1917, the original Ivy restaurant is a well-known celebrity haunt, situated in the heart of London’s West End. Bought by entrepreneur Richard Caring in 2005, it has enjoyed much critical success also, allowing the spin-off Ivy Market Grill to open in Covent Garden last year. The Ivy Chelsea Garden is the latest venture though, promising to bring another slice of the high life to the King’s Road.
The Ivy Chelsea Garden’s venue is set to be an impressive affair. Having been refurbished for the last year, the large garden is a great selling point, meaning the Chelsea set will have somewhere to enjoy their Pimm’s in the summer. Inside, “The colour palette includes burned orange, pewter, forest green and mustard yellow. The floors range from reclaimed wooden parquet to a marble mosaic black and white diamond pattern; the antique mirrors, bronzed wall lights and lanterns add a touch of faded glamour”.

Food-wise, you can expect a varied menu reminiscent of the grandiosity available at the mothership. The all-day menu’s highlights include chopped lobster rigatoni bake, raw yellow fin tuna carpaccio and the signature Chelsea Garden salad.
The restaurant will be less formal than its older counterpart, with many of the tables available for walk-ins. This of course means that tables should be easier to get, unlike the notorious Ivy.
The Ivy Chelsea Garden will open in March 2015. For more information, click here.
