Whisky and Cigar

As the super sleek John Walker and Sons Voyager yacht pulled in to London as part of its worldwide pleasure cruise, Le Pont de la Tour restaurant decided to celebrate with a specially designed, whisky-inspired Johnnie Walker menu.

The food is retro in its conception but thoroughly modern in feel. Organic cured salmon came on a dense, potato-y pancake; the richness offset by sour cream and the freshest garden herbs sprinkling the plate. Duck A L’Orange was almost chocolatey in its depth of flavor, with puy lentils and a scattering of spinach soaking up the dark juices to perfection. And pudding came in the form of a dark chocolate mousse moulded into a perfect cigar shape, complete with a chocolate cake mound of ash.

Each course was accompanied by a specially selected Johnnie Walker whisky, which mounted in smoothness as the evening wore on. Starting with a refreshing cocktail, we then moved on to Gold Label, Platinum Label and Blue Label drams of some of the best whisky in the world.

As we sat outside on the terrace in the evening sunlight, piano music gently wafting from inside and the Tower of London looking grandiose in the background, there was a definite sense of it-doesn’t-get-better-than-this. Sipping delicious whisky, seeing the lights come on along the banks of the thames, and the buzz and thrum of a Thursday night in the most exciting city in the world… if this is the Johnnie Walker lifestyle, we want in.
