Range Rover Evoque: an inspiring assault on the senses

Words: Patrick

Let me take you on a nostalgic journey. You’re 17 years old and you’ve just passed your driving test. It is, without doubt, the best day of your life. Every drive for the next few months is a special experience – you’re free, unshackled from the chains of being reliant on your parents for your every move.

When off the road, you can’t wait to get back behind the wheel. Driving is a joy – a joy that, overtime, sadly fades. It soon becomes a chore. The feeling is not extinguished as you grow older, it merely falls dormant, waiting to be stirred by a car that offers this sense of adventure and freedom once again.

Land Rover gets this – it understands that people’s travel experiences are unique, and that a vehicle should find a way into hearts and souls, much like a family pet. But nothing with four wheels comes close to the romantic nostalgia evoked by this iconic marque.

On a mission to reconnect us with the adventure of driving, and the elements that inspire us to discover and create, Range Rover has created three videos as part of its City Evocation series for the new Range Rover Evoque. The videos center on the shapes, colors and sounds of New York, New Orleans and Los Angeles, through the eyes and ears of photographer Paul Jung, artists Cleo Wade and Liza Voloshin, and music producer Jason Stewart, aka Them Jeans. These artists prove that a car is far more than a simple means of getting from A to B.

The enlivening of the senses is part of the Land Rover ethos – inspired by a greater beauty, they are a masterpiece of engineering and aesthetics, with an immeasurable depth of creativity and capability thought going into each model. Cars have the ability to inspire and encourage the impulse of exploration – in short; they rekindle that 17-year-old joie de vivre.

The Shape of New York

Photographer Paul Jung drives through New York, detailing how the multi-dimensional city inspires his work. It awakens senses and forces one to slow down and consider different perspectives on life.

The Color of New Orleans

Inspiration also comes in the way of a city’s color – in New Orleans, it’s red. Artists Cleo Wade and Liza Voloshin explore the complexity of color among the hubbub of the eclectic city, allowing them to feel part of something huge and exciting, which is expressed through their work.

The Sound of Los Angeles

Them Jeans takes a nostalgic trip of his own, through the streets that inspired much of his music and life’s path. The city has a distinct tone, from record shops to a food truck blasting music, and this stimulates creativity. As with design, a track is never finished, there just comes a time when it must be shared.
