The opening day of Cheltenham was somewhat marred by the fatal injury to Our Conor in the Champion Hurdle, who sustained a sever back injury. Luckily spirits were lifted as the incredible racehorse, Quevega, won her sixth consecutive Mares’ Hurdle yesterday to make Cheltenham history.

Quevega was the odds-on favourite to secure the feat that has never been achieved by any other horse on the iconic hill. Ridden by Ruby Walsh, Quevega raced around the final turn to reach the post just before her stablemate Glens Melody, ridden by Peter Townsend.
“I thought we were in the wrong position the whole race, but Ruby is a genius and obviously had a plan in his head. It was an absolute joy to see her put her head down and win and she has her own unique place in history,” Mullins told BBC Radio 5Live.
